Garlic is one of the oldest antiseptic treatments, both for topical cuts where you’d today probably apply neosporin, and for internal viruses and infections that you probably seek antibiotics for.
So what makes garlic work that way?
The garlic bulb is the part used medicinally. When intact it is odourless; however, crushing the cells brings the enzyme alliinase into contact with the sulphur-containing compound alliin, converting it to allicin which produces the characteristics Garlic odour.
The list of ailments that garlic can treat is incredible and quite varied:

Personally, I love to buy a container of peeled garlic at the grocery store, roast them up in some olive oil, and just eat them straight. Once they’ve been roasted, the smell mellows and the bite turns sweet.
