Despite legalization, marijuana smoking and influence remains a banned practice at work.
In a first-of-its-kind survey, the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) found that 94% of companies in states where medicinal and/or recreational marijuana use is legal continue to have and enforce formal, written substance abuse policies.
Further, 38% of companies will reject candidates who admit to even medicinal use and will fire employees who do, a practice endorsed as legal in Colorado by the Colorado Supreme Court.
Only 6% of companies reject candidates for legal recreational use of marijuana.
Review the SHRM survey to develop best practices for current compliance and future expectations regarding legalized marijuana use and employer responsibilities.
