Kickstarter campaign has raised over $70,000 to make a documentary about lawsuits against Yelp.
CBT has previously reported on the journey one carpet cleaner took to force Yelp to clean up its practices by making Yelp reveal the identity of posters so that business owners could identify fraudulent reviews and have them removed. And while Hadeed Carpet Cleaning won its initial suit, continuing litigation led to protections for Yelp users’ anonymity – Yelp does not have to reveal the legal indentities of its reviewers.

But as one director/producer is aiming to illuminate, accusations and lawsuits over Yelp’s multiple business infractions have led to a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to produce Billion Dollar Bully,

“a feature-length documentary examining Yelp’s business practices involving claims of extortion, review manipulation and review fabrication.

Billion Dollar Bully features business owners from across a broad spectrum who have stepped up and agreed to tell their personal stories of Yelp’s questionable business dealings, all of which are vehemently denied by Yelp, who instead states all allegations are merely conspiracy theories.”
